Congratulations to Janine Young, a future leader in STEM and Base 11’s latest Student of the Month winner!
Janine is currently attending College of San Mateo, Cañada College, and Skyline College — the site of the first community college Fab Lab in California, inside the Base 11 Innovation Center. She’ll be able to capitalize on all of these unique STEM resources as she works toward a degree in chemical engineering, a path she chose because of her strong math skills and love of conducting experiments. Not surprisingly, her favorite college course so far is organic chemistry, thanks to the lab work she finds so fascinating.
She credits college for making her more mindful about her decision-making in all areas of her life, but she is most proud of the analytical skills she is acquiring. “With the classes I’m taking, and for any engineering major, analyzing problems or situations — whether simple or complicated — is almost a routine. Personally, I feel self-pride when I devote time and effort to a problem that results in success.”
As she continues to hone in and perfect her STEM skills, Janine is just waiting to hear back from the four-year universities she hopes to be accepted to. She also hopes to do an internship, preferably laboratory or research-based.
It sounds like she could be joining the ranks of Base 11’s Victory Circle in the not so distant future…
