The largest all-female expedition ever to Antarctica — 76 scientists strong — is currently visiting the icy continent. Women astronomers, engineers, doctors and science journalists from around the globe have come together for the three-week voyage. Their mission, called Homeward Bound, extends beyond climate science to focus on developing the women’s skills as leaders.
“By giving these women the leadership and strategic skills, a sound understanding of the science, and a strong purposefully developed network they will be able to impact policy and decisions towards a sustainable future,” according to the program’s website.
This is the first of several trips that Homeward Bound hopes will eventually impact 1,000 women.
